WILLIAM PR. OF ORANGE, AR37, 1747 FINEST KNOWN EXAMPLE

$2,450.00

RARE  Brilliant, mirrored fields with wisps of light toning. Depression to rim near the 12 o’clock position. “Medallic Illustrations” notes that the single example the author had seen came with a suspension loop. In the past 50 years I have seen two of these medals both with suspension loops. It is likely that all of these medals came with a loop and that this particular example had its loop removed causing a slight disturbance on the rim. The rest of the medal is nothing short of spectacular. The strike is sharp, the fields shimmering with lustre and completely devoid of even the tiniest mark. In fact, this specimen is so immaculate I find it hard to believe that any suspension loop was ever attached to it and that the rim disturbance is actually a striking flaw. In any event, this medal is very rare to extremely rare and I have no hesitation is calling this example the finest known. FDC
