On the obverse is depicted the armored half-length portrait of John Churchill, 1st Duke of Marlborough (1650-1722),  Obv: “IOH D MARLEBVRG ANG EXER CAPIT GENER” His armored bust right.  Rev: “MIRATVR TELIS AEMVLA TELASVIS” Mars seated left amidst battle scene, in exergue “OB GALLOSET BAVAROS / DEVICTOS TALLARDO / DVC AD HOCHSTAD / CAPTO 1704”.  There is an edge inscription which reads “FORTVNAE OBSEQVENTI DVCIS FORTISSIMI POST PRIMITIAS SCHELLENBERGITAS”  Old cabinet gunmetal toning with highly reflective surfaces. Multiple lite contact marks in the obverse field. A bit rare. Ex Spinks auction sale 98, 11 December 2001, lot 58, sold with collector’s ticket.  In 2021 heritage sold an MS63 example for $3140. AU
