BHM1544  Wt. 58.42gr. Commemorates the opening of the London Bridge. The new bridge replaced the medieval bridge started by Henry II in repentance for the murder of Thomas a Becket and finished by King John in 1209.  Like its medieval predecessor, constructing the new London Bridge proved to be a very costly and time consuming endeavor, taking over seven years to complete.  The medal has some case rubs and a couple of field marks, but has not seen any wear. This medal is #1 in the City of London series. Comes with its original red leather roundel case and as such is rare despite that about 700 of these medals were struck.
