Victoria, 1887, AE80
BHM3284 Wt. 250.06gr. Eimer 1732 Jubilee issue issued by the City of London, 450 struck. Obv: Cojoined crowned busts of the young and the more matronly Victoria. ” REGINA .1837 . VICTORIA · IMPERATRIX 1887″ Rev: Britannia standing in chariot drawn by two lions and flanked by the allegoric figures of Justice and Prudence. “ANNUS · JUBILÆUS · 1887”. A superb medal the nicest I have ever seen exhibiting a two-tone patina that imparts a cameo effect. Comes with its original gold embossed case. The case is also pristine which makes this a very rare combination. A recent auction sold an uncased example less fine than this for $3260. Ex. Bonhams sale May 29, 1996, lot 124. NGC has graded 24 of these medals the highest being an MS66. This is the finest example I have ever come across and is certainly among the finest known. FDC
