BHM4186 Montague Rendall was headmaster of Winchester College, 442 bronze medals were struck on the occasion of his retirement. Winchester College was founded in 1382 by William Wykeham, Bishop of Winchester and Chancellor to both Edward III and his grandson Richard II. Its establishment makes it one of the oldest schools in England and was originally founded to re-supply a trained clergy decimated by the Black Death. Both the medal and the red leatherette case are in superb condition. FDC
