CHARLES I, 1630, AR30
MI 254/35 Birth of the future Charles II. Deeply old cabinet toning, some original lustre flashes beneath cobalt and gold toning. A pretty medal, rare in this condition. NGC has given this piece a “details” grade due to a scratch on the reverse. However, close observation reveals that this “scratch” is not damage but is actually a fault on the planchet as the line of the “scratch” travels underneath the lettering, That fact turns this specimen from a “details” grade into a true uncirculated example and at least tied with the highest graded by NGC, an MS62. Ex Baldwins sale #1, May 1994 lot 7 part. UNC
