BHM4124  Wt. 44.1gr    The Battle of Jutland occurred on May 31st 1916, between the British and German naval fleets and ended in a draw after both sides suffered about the same losses. The battle revealed deficiencies in the English naval command structure as well as design problems with British battle cruisers when the Queen Mary blew up after being hit by a single German salvo. Although the English suffered greater losses they were able to claim victory as the German fleet retreated and never gave battle again. In 1918,  after being couped up in their ports and generally mistreated, the German navy mutinied. This disruption spread to other elements of the population leading to the abdication of the Kaiser and finally a German surrender. A choice medal that has obviously been stored in a coin cabinet for some time. The obverse is toned in swathes of cobalt and gold while the reverse exhibits a pale gold sheen which highlights the reverse inscription. SILVER stamped on the edge. A really choice example. Ex.
