Wt. 249.89gr Struck by the Washington Mint which I believe is no longer in business. For a number of years this firm struck .999 fine silver in coins, bars and other formats. Their two best productions were a eight troy ounce, gilt silver coin patterned after the St. Gauden’s Twenty Dollar gold coin and this coin offered here. As the photos show it has the classic Walking Liberty Obverse while the reverse depicts the US heraldic eagle design used on the current US Mint Silver eagles. The coin is struck to proof standards with mirrored fields and frosted relief. A beautiful piece if a bit confusing as this piece contains eight troy ounces of .999 fine silver. ( a 1/2 troy pound would only have 6 troy ounces; a 1/2 avoirdupois pound would have 8 ounces but a troy ounce is heavier than an avoirdupois ounce. So let’s just call this an EIGHT troy ounce piece which is what it is. Edge reeded except for one area where 5211 is stamped. Encapsulated and cased with COA. AMPEX currently has an uncased one for sale for $877. Ebay has a few for $1000 and up. FDC
