ROME, SALONINA, Antoninianus, 260-68

$89.00

RSC31  Obv: Diademed bust draped right on crescent. “CORN SALONINA AVG” Rev: Gallienus and Salonina standing, facing each other and holding hands. “CONCORDIA AVGG”.  Publia Licinia Julia Cornelia Salonina was the wife of Emperor Gallienus and the mother of three sons who were all murdered by political rivals. The fate of Salonina is not known with any certainty, but we know that she was accompanying Gallienus when he was murdered by a disgruntled soldier during the siege of Mediolanum (Milan).  Nice old cabinet tone.
