Louis XIV, 1687, AE73 Gilt

$540.00

Three massive uniface restrikes of medals originally issued under Louis XIV. This set was stuck at the Paris mint and only available to walk in sales and is presumably very scarce. One medal is of the common obverse, the other two are reverses of allegorical scenes; one depicting the Piety of the Ladies of the Court (that has to be a joke) and the other the Justice of the King. The medals are of an impressive size and are superb renditions set off by a heavy gold gilt. Cased in their original cardboard holder. Bought from the Paris Mint June 1989.  FDC
