Anne, 1705PL, Shilling, HIGHEST GRADED ANNE PRE UNION SHILLING FROM AN OLD COLLECTION

$9,150.00

S3588/E1135  Plumes reverse. A superb, pre-union shilling, lovely toning with a sharp strike. From an old collection. This coin was inventoried on a list dated 1731 and was one of several pieces I bought in 1979 from this collection, which had largely remained in the same family for 250 years. Although I cannot prove that this coin was the same piece listed on the inventory, I believe that the condition of the coin speaks to this likelihood. The highest graded shilling of this date by either service and the highest graded pre union Anne shilling by either NGC or PCGS. Business strike coins from this era don’t come any finer. Baldwin’s recently sold at auction a 1702 shilling, graded MS63 by NGC, for L4500 plus commission which totals up to $6600 .  Numismatica Ars Classica sold the Geoffrey Cope pre-union 1702 Vigo in Ms62 for $9800.00 (including buyers fee) in Auction #145. NGC MS65
